MY FIRST CAMERA

Ever since I was a kid I’ve always been interested in and inspired by photography.

I’ve had a lot cameras over the years. Most of them have worn out over time or have been traded in for a model with newer features. I went to visit my mom last weekend and while I was there I found the first camera my parents had ever bought for me, sitting right there on a stack of old, worn out art supplies in the store room.

My first camera was a Canon 60D and it was crop sensor. I watched a lot of  when I was younger, so naturally I was ecstatic when I opened this thing up. While it was more of a toy than anything else, it’s what really introduced me to photography.

As an fifteen-year-old kid with too much free time, this little camera quickly became my prized possession. Just look at it. Back then I thought it was the coolest camera that ever existed, which in turn made me ten times more interesting just by showing it off.

The camera itself is a simple point and shoot 35mm film camera with no settings to adjust, which was great for fifteen-year-old me because I wouldn’t have had the patience for that. With the interesting ability to take four exposures on a single frame, I would take pictures of anything and everything. If something looked even remotely interesting, you better believe I’d be right there taking a photo of it.  

And that was my first click of my all time favorite camera that the reason i have saved the picture.

For me, this was the perfect camera to start off with for the beginner. It wasn’t much, but it really got me taking photos and thinking about photography in general. Even though I’ve had various cameras over the years, moving on to a Canon new 50mm f/1.8 prime lens which is dream for me to buy later that my sister was gifted me on my birthday while I was in my first year of college and finally to the camera I use now, the Canon mark ii with the variety of lenses, this one will always be one of my favorites. Not because of the quality of the camera itself, but because it sparked the idea that photography was something that I could do, and that quickly became important to me.
